With the recent tax increase here in the UK. It seems that taking drugs is actually cheaper than going to the pub. Alright so taking drugs might be illegal, But its the direction that the government is pushing the people towards which is pretty shifty in my opinion.
Recently across the news, the government have been working hard to stop binge drinking and forcing supermarkets to stop selling low priced high alcohol beer. But with this recent tax hike, Surely more people will be looking to get a drink at their local supermarket and have a party at home. Rather than spending £3 - £4 a pint.
The Metro yesterday published a price comparison chart, where it shows the price of a pint compared to the price of various drugs. Here’s how it looked:
Price of a pint - Most of the UK £3. London £4
A pack of 20 cigarettes - £5.66 (Highest price i believe)
A line of cocaine - £3
Ecstasy Pill - £2.91
Line of speed - 63 pence
Hash (Resin) Spliff - 90 pence
Skunk (Weed) Spliff - £1.70
Hit of heroin - £3.50
This information came from official government figures. With the average street price provided by the Independent Drug Monitoring Unit who provide street prices for courts.
Now although cocaine and the other drugs aren’t sold by the line or hit. It’s still scary to see that the price of drugs has dropped. Whilst the price of legal highs such as alcohol and cigarettes have sky-rocketed. So where does this leave the people that work hard and just want to relax at the weekend?
Maybe they could buy cheap alcohol form the local supermarket. Oooops slight problem. The government are trying to cut down on these types of drinkers as they believe these drinkers cause a majority of the trouble. I suppose they could go to the pub and have an over priced pint. But what if they are a smoker? Remember it’s no smoking in the pubs now, and with the typical British day including free rain. It’s unlikely many would want to sit outside and smoke with their over priced pint.
So will Britain get a new name for itself? Instead of been known as ‘Binge Drinking‘ Britain. Will we know get the new title of ‘Coke Snorting Country‘?
When will the tax here in the UK start to drop? Or at the very least start to affect the people that set these tax hikes. As always Spirits and cigars didn’t move much in price. Could this possibly be because all the labour members smoke cigars and drink spirits like whisky? I dunno. Its just a thought.
No wonder so may Brits head for sunny shores to live the rest of their lives. Lower tax, cheaper beer and after all, They have worked hard throughout their lives to get a decent standard of living.
