Just recently i’ve noticed more and more topics pop up at various web forums i happen to visit, all involving this new word (new to me at least) Cuil.
Cuil is an old Irish word for knowledge. For knowledge, ask Cuil.
To save you a few seconds i’ll tell you right now that Cuil is a search engine. According to the owners and people who run it. Its THE best search engine on the net and crawls 3 times as many pages as Google, 10 times more than MSN and they don’t happen to mention Yahoo.
I only have a few problems with this new Cuil search engine. Ok it might actually be more than a few. But i have only spent a grand total of 15 minutes on the site. Here’s what i don’t like:
- The way the results are displayed is almost backwards in my opinion. Why would i want to see my results laid out that way?
- They claim to be ‘The World’s Largest Search Engine‘ I hadn’t even heard of them until these forum topics kept popping up everyday. Where as Google is mentioned on TV in comedy shows and is pretty much a household name.
- The name itself, how do i even say it? Is it ‘Coo-ill‘ ‘Cue-ill‘ After looking round the site, i still don’t know how to say it. I think i’ll just call it Cull.
- If their SO big, then why don’t alot of sites appear when searching for the domain name?? And why do the results seem kinda….. Stale.
Theres probably a whole load more wrong with it too. But hey, you know i don’t like it. So what do others think?
This thread should have probably alerted me to the whole Cull thing. But obviously i missed this one. (Hey it gets busy on that site. It’s not easy to read everything)
This one just got created a few days ago has more replies than the first one. In fact theres 4 pages of replies. So if you plan on reading it. Put the kettle on first.
