Its all about me!

Library login

Due to recent problems with the ISP, i am having to blog form the library. Not exactly ideal but hey. At least i manage to make it online.

The reason the ISP (Virgin Media) disconnested us, was due to an ongoing problem for numerous years where we paid. But they couldn’t provide the service. Sucks i know but this is just the tip of how they treat loyal customers who neevr get behind on their bill and make issues known to them.

After numerous promised call backs and being guaranteed that our services would be fixed. It seems the easiest way for Virgin Media to deal witht their customers is to simply disconnect them.  Not just the internet. But every service we had with them.

Now it’s just a case of waiting for BT to be installed and then no more Virgin Media and no more shoddy customer service.   If BT customer service turnsout to be that shoddy, then i guess we’ll be moving yet again.

Time will tell and then we’ll see.

Soon to come is a comparison post for anyone wondering who else to switchto sign up other than the dreaded Virgin Media.

Lesson learnt, Virgin Media sucks.

Pownce is gone!

If you’ve took the time to build up your Pownce profile and add useful stuff to it. Then it was all for nothing.  Seriously, i ain’t joking.

Pownce have sold out to Sixapart who also happen to own several other blogging platforms, what this means for Pownce users is. That you have until the 15th of December to export your information otherwise it’ll head into thebalck hole of hell on the internet.  Not exactly great if you have no where to export it too.

I suppose what you could call good news is that all Pownce users are welcome over at vox.com.  It does’t really say on the Pownce blog if your files will be able to be imported into Vox.com. But i would hope so. Otherwise they’re giving you something you cannot use.

This is why many people say over and over again that running your own site has many advantages. After all, if you were gunna sell your own site you’d at least have the ability to back up your files into any format you so choose.

If you’ve got any info on Pownce, you’d best be backing it up round about …. now. Or at least before the 15th of this month.

Read their farewell entry here.

Free Food Voucher – Restaurant.com Promotion

Living in the States? Want some free food?

Restaurant.com has a promotion on at the moment where they will hand out $10 vouchers for anyone that signs up. Better yet, they’ll even let you forward it to a friend so you can share the happiness!

It’s only available in specific states and certain cities, so check and make sure that your state and city is listed before you go handing out those vouchers. (Or just forward it to everyone you know on myspace,Facebook etc.)

Whoever you send it too will surely appreciate it, especially as the economy is taking a sudden downturn. Hell everyone loves something for free! Even me. (But i’m in the UK and can’t get the offer :( )

This is brilliant for anyone that wants to give a gift to someone further away. Or a gift to someone close by. Either way, everyone appreciates free food…………………….Right?

Even the FTC isn’t perfect

Something that is important when it comes to designing your site or even just trying to get visitors is to make sure your links actually point to a webpage.  After all, if visitors can’t navigate your site then who will?

This is exactly the problem i came across today while trying to browse the FTC.com site.

I was on their spam page at http://www.ftc.gov/spam when i got interested in one of their sidebar links.  Obviously this being the net i attempted to click on one of their many links to reveal the rest of the article. Only to be told that the page didn’t exist!

Now don’t get me wrong, people make mistakes and things often happen that we didn’t expect.  But did we ever expect the Federal Trade Commission to get so many links wrong?  I didn’t think they would but it seems they really did.

Check out the FTc.gov/spam site and see if you can get nay of the links on the left to work. I know i couldn’t ;)

Christmas Gifts – Time To Get Ready For Santa

It’s the 1st of December and the chances are many people haven’t even started their Christmas shopping, i am one of those people with lots left to buy, but no real plan as to when i’ll get there. But this is the year 2008 and i’ve got the internet on my side.

This is the time of year when Googling for presents either won’t find what your looking for, or will find what you want but not at the price your willing to pay. Solution? Shop around!

Take a quick look at this Julklappar page. Now before you disappear, the site is in Swedish and there’s no translation available. But getting an idea of whats on the site is all we are there for. :) You can always find somewhere that does have an English version available elsewhere.

The top listing is a 3d hologram thingy with a pig that stands on top, but can’t be touched. First time i spotted this i was about 10 and in the Gadget Shop in Hull. The thing on top wasn’t a pig but instead a screw. No special screw, just an ordinary screw. But the amazement people got from it was plentiful.

You can find more cool Christmas gifts for people on their homepage at Presenttips or by browsing the site, it’ll only take a moment and you may just get some pretty cool gift ideas for those you care about (Or forgot about :p ).

There’s only 24 days left before Christmas hits, if your not prepared for when it does arrive. You may end up with a bunch of angry friends and family that were hoping for presents.
