5 Things to do in Amsterdam

Any one who regular follows this blog (Why they would is beyond me :p ) will have noticed that Vix and I love Amsterdam and just about everything it has to offer. Whether it be relaxing in the coffee shops that line the streets, or visiting the many museums and older streets of Amsterdam that many tourists seem to forget about. We love it all.

Here’s a list of 5 things to in Amsterdam that may interest some of you. If not all of you. (Even a little bit).

1.) Canal Trips in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is famous for it’s canals. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are all manner of canal tours available to tourists and anyone willing to hand over a couple of euros. Canals can be caught from the popular Damrak or close to Central station depending on which kind of tour you’d like. There’s also the canal bus for anyone looking to travel the city whilst hopping and on and off at different locations.

Amsterdam Photos – Part One

Heres a few of the photos we took whilst away. I’ll try and upload a few more everyday, as doing them all at once could possibly take all day.

There’s 450+ photos of Amsterdam. Everything from Amsterdam coffeeshops,Museums,Churches,Streets and just about everything else.

Some are even of random buildings that looked quite funky at the time.

Abraxas Coffee Shop. Just outside of Dam Square

Abraxas Coffeeshop. A great atmosphere with friendly staff. This coffeeshop can be found just outside of Dam Square down an alleyway off of Kalverstraat.

A building we saw from the canal tour.

Not really sure what this building is. We spotted this whilst on one of the canal cruises. This building is A lot larger than typically narrow Dutch buildings.

Buildings over the river.

These two buildings dominated the skyline whilst we were on the canal cruise. Again, no idea what they are. :D
The Dutch have a HUGE selection of cheeses

Cheese anyone? The Dutch have some of the worlds greatest cheeses. This wasn’t a specialist cheese shop. It was just an ordinary cheese shop.

Churches in Amsterdam are everywhere. Heres a photo of one

The Dutch have churches everywhere. Maybe it’s just in Amsterdam. Or maybe they really are everywhere.  If you don’t need see a church whilst there. You’ve probably got your eyes closed.

So many bikes in Amsterdam. Gotta park them somewhere.

This bikepark was created for the sole purpose of freeing up the streets around Central Station. It holds thousands of bikes and as you can see. Is always full.

I’ll post more tomorrow or the day after. Still alot of the photos need resizing.

Holiday Photos …….. Coming soon!

Ok so we’ve been away on our holiday and are officially back on home ground. We took ALOT of photos whilst away on holiday.

No honestly, we took hundreds! So currently we are sorting through them and working out which ones are best that we took whilst in Amsterdam. Once i’ve managed that, (it may take a couple of days.) then you’ll start to see some photos appear on our Amsterdam Holidays site as well as right here on off-it.org.  Not sure where abouts they’ll fit, but i’m sure i’ll find somewhere for them. If in doubt. Check out the Amsterdam Holidays site for the photos and info regarding our latest trip to the Dam.

Salvia Divinorum Extract

I first spotted this drug about a year ago when someone pointed me to a video on YouTube. I had absolutely no idea what it was, what its effects were or if it was even legal. It turns out that after a small amount of research (And i mean really small amount of research).

Heres the video i was sent:

I found that it was from a plant, had effects similar to LSD and was indeed legal in most countries across the world. In fact there are only a few countries with some form of control.

The plant is native to Mexico and was used by Shamans throughout time to induce some of those wacky moments you see on films and documentaries where they go kinda nuts. With its popularity growing, i doubt Mexico is the only place is grows nowadays with greenhouses probably contributing to its growth over seas.

Since it went commercial, there’s quite a few different strengths of the extract itself. I believe it started off somewhere around x4. But nowadays stronger extracts have been becoming popular such as salvia 20x and the more potent salvia40x.

As it’s legal in Amsterdam, and i get to Amsterdam this week. I might get the chance to see first hand what this drug is like just by checking out some of the local Smartshops. Someone there is bound to be buying it, i’ll just have to follow them and see what it’s like when they take it. Maybe even grab a video of them! :D
