Baby Zach smiling after baby clinicSo Zach had his 6 week check up yesterdayand everything came back looking ok with our little dude.

They performed several tests and weighed him as they always do at baby clinic, which is a good thing as we can track his growth and make sure everything is going ok.   This week he weighed the same as last time,  so although he had no gain, he also didn’t have any loss.

Keep up with his weekly weights.

The tests they performed were standard procedure for a 6 week check up, here’s what they went through :

  • Hip test
  • Alertness test
  • Startle test
  • Spine check

Hip Test :

The hip test is to make sure all of the babies joints are in place, the doctor bent Zach’s legs up and moved them around to ensure everything was in place.

Alertness Test :

More of an observation by the Doctor than a test.  The Doctor moved his hand around in front of Zach.  Zach was actually well alert before the Doctor started moving their hand, He just seemed happy to have something to watch for a moment.

Startle Test :

The startle test really did what it said on the tin, it startled him.  The Doctor sat him up and gently dropped him back to see if he threw his hands up in the air.

Spine Test :

This brief test took just a mionute or two. The doctor rolled him over in her hand and checked his spine was ok.  A visual check and brief physical check is all thats needed.

The whole appointment took around 30 mins, which included waiting to be seen. All tests proved to be ok and received a tick in their box on the Doctors chart.

Afterwards we enjoyed a nice slow walk in the sun back home.  Vix and i walked, whilst Zach got to ride in his Trenton Deluxe.
